About New Beginnings for Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Exploitation (CSE)

We support people who have experienced childhood sexual exploitation to get practical and emotional support to move on with their lives. The severity of the experiences mean survivors often cannot access specialist help elsewhere.

Established in 2016, in the wake of Operation Bullfinch which uncovered 300 people who had potentially been victims of CSE in Oxfordshire between 1999 and 2014, New Beginnings has been appraised in an independent evaluation.

Charlotte Dawson (Elmore's Service Manager who oversees the delivery of New Beginnings) and Dr Nadia Wager (an independent evaluator of the service and Director of the None in Three Centre at the University of Huddersfield) discuss the uniqueness of the service, the needs of adult survivors of CSE, and how Elmore meets those needs.

  • • Anyone aged 16+ in Oxford City, with no upper age limit

    • Anyone who has experienced childhood sexual exploitation

    • Clients will have complex and multiple needs—this may include mental and physical health issues, emotional wellbeing issues, lack of social support, practical problems, finances, accommodation, substance use, and vulnerabilities

  • • Improving mental wellbeing and enabling recovery

    • Confidence building and improving self-esteem

    • Providing support around housing, money, benefits, or debt

    • Providing support and tools to enable you to build links within your local community to prevent isolation and loneliness

    • Acting as an advocate to ensure your voice is heard

    • Providing information and assistance to enable you to be a part of your local communities, including employment, education, volunteering and training opportunities

    • Working with you to help you learn or improve practical life skills

    • Supporting you in your contact with the police and criminal justice system

  • • A lead worker would meet with you regularly (normally fortnightly) and help you to identify the goals you want support with

    • Support will be flexible based on your goals and these goals do not have to relate specifically to childhood sexual exploitation

Please be aware that the New Beginnings service is only available to people who have experienced childhood sexual exploitation.
